Muslim and gay - guest speaker Khakan Qureshi
At our Battersea meeting on Saturday 8th June we were joined by Khakan Qureshi who is from Birmingham. He is the youngest of seven children, born to Muslim parents. Coming out was not an easy process for him and Khakan told us his story which was both moving and honest and shared with us the difficulties he experienced in the early days. Both his parents are now no longer alive but he said the love they bestowed on him regardless of his sexuality gives him the strength and determination to help other gay Muslims who feel stranded. You may be aware of his association with the school in Birmingham which is having to deal with parents not happy with reference to LGBT relationships in the education curriculum. He also recently appeared on the Sunday BBC1 programme The Big Question with Nicky Campbell.
